Plastic welding rods PPS - Polyphenylene sulfide
PPS (Polyphenylene sulfide) is a thermoplastic high-performance plastic that is characterized by its high temperature resistance, good dimensional stability and low water absorption. PPS is also a good insulator and is highly impermeable to most liquids and gases. There are networked and linear PPS. In crosslinked PPS, the branched polymer chains are reversibly linked to one another via physical crosslinking points. In linear PPS, the chains accumulate to form highly ordered superstructures. This structure is particularly evident in the mechanical properties: linear PPS has above all a higher toughness and elongation at break than the cross-linked. The good mechanical properties can also be retained at temperatures well above 200 °C. In addition, the chemical resistance of PPS to almost all solvents, many acids and alkalis should be emphasized. The melting point of PPS is approx. 280 °C, the long-term use temperature from -180 °C to +220 °C.
